After reading these two texts, we can realize the film’s subject and details clearly and we can look at the film in a different way. This provides that we can enjoy further more when we watch a film in this way.

In what way(s) did the introductory chapters (“Introduction to Film and Representations” & “What is Gender”) help you analyze the short stories such as “Popular mechanics”, “Cat in the rain”, “Barbie-Q” and “The Story of An Hour”? If you think they did not help, explain why not.

The introductory chapters helped me to analyze the short stories. In the Popular Mechanics, it mentions light and dark lights. In this way, we might understand that if something happens good, it is light. If something happens bad, it is dark. Also, the setting takes in the house where woman and man are in the their bedroom and kitchen. This shows us they communicate each other even though they fight. In the Barbie Q, it talks about social status. For example, girls are not rich. However, they want to be rich and beautiful like barbie which is sold in the capitalist system. In the Story of an Hour, first, it mentions that women are supposed to be live at home. They are under control of men. Woman feels freedom after her husband dies. There are singnals of rebirth such as spring life.  In the Cat in the Rain, the cat represents a baby or love which is missing for woman.

Did the introductory chapters of the course (“Introduction to Film and Representations” & “What is Gender”) help you understand the Lion King? If yes, please explain in what ways/how. If not, please explain why not. (Please provide detailed explanations and specific examples. Don’t just write “yes, “very useful” or “very boring”. Such comment do not help much.)

Yes, the two texts helped me to analyze the Lion King easily. In the introduction to the study of film form and representation, it mentions film forms such as literary design, visual design, sound design etc. Analyzing film with these forms is very helpful to understand deeply. For example, some parts of the film are light and this represents the kindness. On the other hand, there are dark places and this singns the badness. Some sounds in the film adapt according to goodness and badness. Moreover, there is a hierarcy system. There is a king and there are people who obey the king. Furthermore, if we look at the gender differences. In this film, this society is a patriarchal society. Men are more important than women. For example, the king’s son is future king after his father dies and women stand in the background position.

My Perception of Them

Choose a group of people ( Turks, doctors, rap singers, lesbians, teachers) and explain how you percieve them.

Explain why?

Doctors are very important for people’s life. They help people when people are sick or they save their lifes when people have an accident or they catch serious diseases etc.  Their job is very difficult. Every people cannot do this job. Also they spend more time in hospitals than they spend free time for themselves. They should improve themselves constantly in order to be useful for people.
